Bitstream's Bolt Browser, that was released earlier this year amidst much fanfare, has quietly shed its Beta tag and is now out in the open, ready to slug it out with Opera Mini. Bolt Browser was first announced back in February, during the Mobile World Congress 09. It is claimed to be faster than Opera Mini and also boasted of features like native video support - a thing which is still missing on the Opera Mini.
However, as expected, the closed Beta version had its fair share of bugs. Now, after eight months since the initial announcement, folks over at BitStream thought the browser is now ready to be officially released - and that is what they just did. The latest version of the browser is Version 1.5, which is now available for users. The Bolt website does not seem to have been updated with the new version so far and is still giving out the erstwhile "Beta" 1.04 version. While the new version does not claim to be filled with new features, the Bolt team assures that lots of changes have been made under the hood-most of which should be noticeable.
The email which Bolt has sent out to the Beta Testers says that the update is available through an automated prompt. I have been waiting for the prompt for quite a while now - to no avail. If the update is being implemented in phases or even country wise, the procedure might take a while. We will, of course, be taking a first look at the browser and how good it actually is - especially now when Opera Mini has released its latest Opera Mini 5.
