4G Mobile Debuts in Sweden.

Posted by Unknown Dec 16, 2009
4G Mobile Debuts in Sweden      While we, in India, haven't even started dabbling with 3G, half a world away in Sweden, the country s leading Telecom operator TeliaSonera has announced the launch of its commercial LTE services.

LTE is a fourth generation mobile technology that offers blazing fast Internet access to wireless devices. In fact, with LTE, users get insane data speeds of up to 100Mbits/second. That s about 10 times faster than existing 3G services.

The service is currently available in Stockholm, the Swedish capital, Oslo, the Nordic capital, and will expand to over 25 cities over the course of 2010. The service is targeted at users who use data intensive applications like live video streaming, video conferencing and online gaming. Now that the service has been launched, initial costumers will have to face the trouble of making their devices compatible with LTE, which is currently poorly supported in terms of hardware availability.

TeliaSonera will provide special 4G modems to the users in order to use their devices whilst they are under 4G coverage. Looks like its time manufacturers start making 4G enabled mobile phones. Currently, the service is accessible only through the aforementioned 4G modem.
